Should i worry about mixing friends from different circles in a shared chat?

I’ve noticed my online friend group has started using a shared private server for all our chats, but I’m feeling uneasy about how it blurs the line between our separate social circles. It’s creating this weird pressure where my gaming buddies, my old college friends, and even some acquaintances from a hobby forum are all mixing together in one space, and the dynamic feels forced. I’m not sure if this kind of digital social convergence is healthy or if I’m just overthinking it.

I get that. When a single chat space pulls in your gaming crew, old college friends, and a hobby group, the vibe changes. It stops feeling like separate doors and starts feeling like a crowded lobby you’re supposed to navigate every day.

I did try carving out smaller threads for each group inside the same server and kept a general chat for everything. It helped a bit, but it also felt admin-y and made people hesitate to jump in.

Maybe the problem isn’t the mix so much as the pressure to perform. If you’re worried about keeping everyone happy, that’s a lot of mental energy. Is that the real problem?

I was fiddling with my coffee and my mind wandered to how online spaces mirror real rooms. It feels loud, and a bit tiring, when everyone from different groups is in the same chat.
