Should i worry about that moment of uncertainty at crosswalks?
#1
I’ve been driving for years, but I still get a little tense when I see a pedestrian waiting at a crosswalk on a multi-lane road. I always stop in my lane, but I can’t see if the car in the lane next to me is also stopping, and I worry the pedestrian might step out thinking it’s clear. How do you handle that moment of uncertainty?

I slow down smoothly as soon as I spot someone waiting, stay in the middle of my lane, and scan the next lane for signs the other driver is still braking. It helps me feel less surprised if they step out.

There was a moment years ago when I assumed the car next to me would stop and it didn’t; I learned to give extra space and not rely on others.

I taped a sticky note on the dash that said check mirrors every few seconds for a few weeks, and it became second nature.

Do you think the real issue is the crosswalk setup or my timing, and would a different lane choice help that moment?
