Should my electrical panel handle a level 2 charger?
#1
I’m trying to figure out if my home’s electrical panel can even handle adding a Level 2 charger, or if I’m looking at a full panel upgrade. The electrician mentioned my 100-amp service might be maxed out with our existing AC and dryer.

We have a 100A service too, and when we tried to add a Level 2 charger the electrician warned that the AC and electric dryer could max it out if used at the same time.

We did a load calc and the verdict was there isn’t much headroom; in our case the fix was a subpanel feeding the EV charger.

I started confident it was just about the charger, but the more I think about it the more it feels like a balancing act I don’t fully understand, and I’m not sure if I’m chasing the right problem.

Do you know if your panel has any room for load management or a charger that throttles when other loads spike?
