I keep trying to settle on my personal ranking for the best movie trilogies, but I get stuck every time on whether the original Star Wars films should be number one or if The Lord of the Rings deserves that spot. It feels like comparing two perfect, but completely different, things.

I keep thinking about how the first two films of that space saga feel like they invented the blockbuster language, but the third changes the scale. For me, the emotional arc matters more than the world-building.

I ranked the fantasy epic higher because of the craft across all three: production design, script, and the actors. But then I replay the space saga and the nostalgia hits me in a different way.
