Should the new Harry Potter series be faithful to the books or add fresh angles?

I just saw the trailer for the new Harry Potter series and I’m already feeling conflicted. The movies are so iconic for my generation that a straight retelling seems unnecessary, but part of me is curious if a more faithful adaptation could add something new. I can’t decide if I’m being too protective of the original films or if this is a genuine chance to improve on them.

That trailer hit me in the nostalgia nerve. The old films still look and feel so precise that a faithful remake might feel like a reenactment rather than a new chapter. I’m torn between wanting something that respects the vibe and worrying it would just retell the same beats.

I tried imagining extra scenes that could deepen the world without changing the core story, like more room for character debates in class or sly hints about grief after big losses. Then I remembered it would be a reboot and the fear of rewinding what made the first versions click.

Do you think a faithful retelling could ever capture the same magic without feeling staged?

I keep catching myself thinking about pacing and timing, and then getting pulled back to the idea of a new cast. Maybe the real problem isn’t fidelity but whether the audience is ready to invest in something that immediately invites comparison.
