Should the Road House remake keep the original vibe or go its own way?

I just watched the new Road House, and I’m honestly torn. I loved the original’s cheesy, over-the-top charm, but this one feels so different in tone and style that I’m not sure it even works as a remake. Does a new version need to capture the spirit of the original, or is it better when it does its own thing completely?

I went in hoping for the sunny cheese of the original Road House and left with something grittier and quieter. It felt like they were trying to reboot a vibe rather than replicate a moment and I kept wondering if faithfulness was the wrong goal

I did a quick compare by rewatching the first film last weekend and then this one. The new one has slicker action and less campy banter which makes the charm feel airborne rather than earned

Do you think the core premise translates today or is the problem really the way they executed it?

I grabbed a beer and paid attention to the pacing. By the last set piece I was half bored and half curious whether they could have kept the old line about respect. It felt like a different movie wearing the same jacket
