Should we formally recognize trusted contributors without creating a hierarchy?
#1
I’ve noticed a few regulars in our community who consistently post high-quality, thoughtful replies, and I’m wondering if we should formally recognize them as something like “trusted contributors.” I’m just not sure how to structure that without creating an unofficial hierarchy that might make newer members feel excluded.

I’ve watched a few folks in our group get asked for feedback, and a badge would have felt nice, but it also changed how others spoke to them. The idea of calling someone a trusted contributor sounds good on paper, but it can tilt the vibe if it isn’t earned by every post and visible to everyone. I’d worry about gatekeeping and about people who help behind the scenes getting overlooked.

We ran a tiny pilot with a visible badge for two weeks. Response was faster and more thoughtful from those few, but a handful of newer folks slid into quieter threads, not sure if that was real effect or nerves about hierarchy.

I keep coming back to the question of what we actually want to signal. Maybe the real win is clear feedback norms and easy onboarding, not a title. A rotating mentor system or an opt-in reviewers pool could keep things fluid without a status ladder.

Do you think the problem is about honoring quality or about crowding out fresh opinions by elevating a few voices too visibly?
