Should we hire a tech cofounder or keep outsourcing our mvp?

I’m trying to decide if we should bring on a technical co-founder at this stage, or if we should just keep outsourcing our MVP development. We have a clear vision and some early customer interest, but I’m worried about committing equity when our cash runway is so tight.

Been there we started with outsourcing and kept chasing milestones because there were always questions in the specs. equity felt heavy even as we tried to keep burn down. we learned to push for concrete milestones and frequent demos before committing more cash.

We did bring on a tech co founder after a few back to back months of interviews and a lean plan. we set a tiny equity slice and a two year vesting and kept hiring others only for specific features. momentum was real but the cap table changed and that sting never fully goes away.

Im not sure the problem is just leadership on the technical side maybe the real bottleneck is the idea getting pinned down. we tried outsourcing a MVP and ran into design drift and missed deadlines, then wondered if maybe a strong product manager would be the real lever.

We borrowed a freelance spin up for a week or two to prove a concept and tracked signups. the numbers spiked then faded and we stopped that path because it felt unsustainable. it taught us to test more before locking in a person who changes the equity story.
