Should we hire a third-party verifier to check our supplier's social compliance?

I’m trying to decide if we should hire a third-party firm to conduct an independent verification of our supplier’s social compliance claims, but I’m worried about the cost and whether it will actually strengthen our brand’s trust or just create more paperwork. Has anyone gone through this and seen a real difference in customer confidence?

We tried deploying a third party verification last year. It was pricey and the audit reports were thorough, but we didn’t hear customers mentioning it in their conversations. The benefit looked more like peace of mind for us and our retailers than a clear bump in consumer trust.

From feedback we gathered, some shoppers noticed the company took steps to be more transparent, but the lift in trust was small and not universal. It did help reduce questions in supplier reviews, though.

Do you think the real value is in reducing risk and internal governance, not in customer perception?

I drifted from chasing a certification to fixing how we evaluate suppliers. Once we improved onboarding and created concrete supplier scorecards, the work felt steadier even if customers didn't loudly reward the change.
