Should we rethink how threads are sorted to keep good discussions visible?

I’ve noticed that some of the most interesting discussions on here seem to get buried after just a day or two, while simpler threads stick around for ages. It makes me wonder if the way we’re sorting topics by the last reply date is actually working against finding the good stuff.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that pattern too. A thread starts buzzing, then it slides down, and the deeper convo gets buried just as it starts to click with people.

I experimented with a hybrid sort once on a side project — give older threads a nudge if there’s recent activity — and I did see a few folks re-engage, but it didn’t feel like a clean fix.

Maybe the problem isn’t the sorting at all. Could be that new people never see the longer talks, or that notifications pull everyone toward fresh threads rather than the buried gems.

I once bookmarked a thread, came back a day later and it still felt alive, which made me wonder if the signal is there but the view isn’t. Not sure how you’d test that without changing the UI.
