Significant events of the Renaissance period for beginner timelines
#1
I’ve been trying to piece together a proper timeline of the Renaissance, but I keep hitting dead ends. I’m a history enthusiast coming back to the topic after a decade away, and I need a clear, reliable list of the Significant events of the Renaissance period for a small local lecture I’m preparing next month. My old textbooks are buried in storage, and I feel like my memory is patchy at best.

So far, I grabbed a used copy of *The Renaissance: A Short History* by Paul Johnson for about eight dollars, which helped with the broad strokes, but it skipped the nitty-gritty dates I need. I also tried the BBC’s online timeline, but it felt too Euro-centric—well, actually more Italy-centric—and glossed over things like the printing press outside of Gutenberg’s 1450s milestone. One thing I’m uncertain about: is the fall of Constantinople in 1453 considered a start point for the Renaissance, or is that more of a side event?

What specific events—battles, inventions, or discoveries—would you rank as absolutely essential for a newcomer to understand the period’s turning points, and why did you pick them over, say, artistic milestones like the Mona Lisa?
