Simple chemistry experiments for kids at home using kitchen items
#1
I’m a dad trying to get my kid excited about science over the weekends, but I’m stuck living in a small apartment with a very tight budget. I need simple chemistry experiments for kids at home that use stuff we already have in the kitchen, because I can’t afford any fancy kits right now and we don’t have outdoor space for messy spills.

I tried the classic baking soda and vinegar volcano, which worked once but then just fizzled weakly after that. I also picked up the 4M Crystal Growing Kit for about fifteen bucks, but the crystals came out cloudy and crumbly—maybe I didn’t stir the solution long enough. Oh, and the volcano mess was harder to clean than I expected, so I’m looking for something less chaotic.

Has anyone found a reliable, low-mess experiment that actually wows a seven-year-old without requiring special ingredients or a backyard? I’d love to hear what specific supplies you use and how you handle the cleanup, because our tiny kitchen table is the only workspace we have.
