Should I keep Auto or switch to Dolby Digital Plus on my soundbar for dialogue?

I just got a new soundbar and I’m trying to figure out if I should keep my streaming service’s audio setting on “Auto” or force it to Dolby Digital Plus. The dialogue is clearer on Auto, but the surround effects seem much weaker compared to the other setting.

I stuck with Auto. Dialog is clearer, which matters to me, but the surround effects feel kinda flat.

When I set it to Dolby Digital Plus, the soundstage opened up and the rears felt more present, but the dialogue sometimes lost that extra bit of clarity.

Do you have a subwoofer or a tuneable EQ on the bar? Maybe the placement is the real issue.

I tried both for a few shows and still wasn’t sure what was truly best. I left it on Auto and just tweaked the bar’s own DSP a notch.
