What can i do to stop my car's gps from pushing me off highways?

I just got a new car and the built-in navigation is constantly trying to reroute me off the highway for what it claims is a faster route, but it’s always just surface streets with traffic lights. I’ve missed the exit it wants me to take a couple times now and the system gets really insistent, recalculating over and over. Has anyone else had their car’s guidance fight them like this, and is there a way to make it less aggressive about these alternate paths?

Yeah I know the feeling. Mine kept trying to push me off the highway onto a faster but longer set of side streets with lots of signals. The voice got louder after I missed one exit. I dug into the settings and found a fastest route option plus a stay on highways rule. I switched to staying on the highway unless there is a real delay, and it stopped pushing me so hard. It still suggests other routes sometimes but it calms down.

I had a similar nagging issue for a week. It would recalc every few seconds as if a miracle would happen and the new route would save a minute. I ended up turning off auto reroute and just ignoring the prompts when I know the highway exit I need. Not perfect but it takes the edge off.

I tried a different trick I guess when it starts pushing I just stay calm and take the exit I want. The car still bugs me but at least I finish the trip without getting lost. I did notice the estimated time changes a lot depending on whether it thinks I will take the fast route or not.

I keep wondering if the data feed is the real problem and not your choices. Do you think the source behind the routing is faulty and pushes the wrong kind of recalculation?
