What’s a good fuel economy for my suv with 11.5 L/100km and suburban driving?

I’ve been tracking my fuel consumption for the past six months and I’m still not sure what’s considered a good average for my situation. I drive a 2018 SUV mostly on suburban streets with the occasional highway trip, and my calculated average seems to hover around 11.5 L/100km. I’m wondering if that’s just the reality for this type of vehicle and driving pattern, or if others are seeing something significantly better.

That 11.5 L/100km feels pretty normal for a 2018 SUV in suburbia with a few highway hops. I get similar numbers unless the highway cruising is steady and the traffic is light.

I did a small side test last winter: city driving about 12.5, highway trips around 9.5, overall averaged 11. So there are days you squeeze a bit more out, but it bounces around.

I tried doing things like removing the roof racks, keeping tires inflated, and a gentler throttle. The gains were small enough I stopped chasing every change after a few weeks.

Do you split city vs highway when you average?
