What’s causing ctr drop in retargeting and how to spot ad fatigue?
#1
I’ve been running a retargeting campaign for our online store, but the click-through rate is dropping even as our audience segment grows. I’m starting to wonder if we’re showing the same ad too many times and causing fatigue, but I’m not sure how to diagnose that specifically from the platform’s frequency metrics.

I ran a retargeting push recently and watched CTR slip as the audience grew. The knob that moved most was frequency per person, and after we rotated creatives a bit and eased the cadence, there was a short bounce but it never fully recovered.

From my side, frequency alone never told the whole story. I looked at post click metrics and view through conversions too, and it helped me see some segments were losing interest even if the click numbers looked fine.

I once blamed fatigue and cut the budget, but the CTR stayed stubbornly low. Then I found a landing page issue for mobile users from retargeting, which explained weak post-click engagement.

Not confident here, but I keep wondering if we’re chasing the wrong signal; could the problem be that the audience is broader than the intent and the high frequency is masking a relevance issue?

Another thought: maybe the audience quality drift is real as we add lookalikes; the same ad will feel irrelevant to new members even if it matches the old ones in a metric.
