What’s the best beginner-friendly video editor for simple cuts and titles?
#1
I’ve been trying to find a good, simple video editor for my YouTube clips that doesn’t feel overwhelming. I downloaded a few free ones, but they either crash when I add more than two tracks or the export quality looks terrible. Is there a decent option that handles basic cuts, titles, and audio mixing without a steep learning curve or hidden costs?

Shotcut works surprisingly well for simple cuts and titles on a midrange PC. I used it for a bunch of YouTube clips and the audio mixing was straightforward. It does feel a bit odd at first, and I did have a crash when I dragged a ton of clips into the timeline, but restarting usually fixed it.

I tried DaVinci Resolve Free and it can do clean exports, but the learning curve is real. On a modest laptop it chugs when you add more than a couple of video tracks, which was a dealbreaker for me.

I picked OpenShot last year because it’s free and simple. It handles cuts and titles, and the audio mixer is passable. It froze once in a project with four layers, but I just restarted and kept going. Not perfect, but usable.

Are you sure the issue is the editor? I found I got terrible results when I exported with a low bitrate and the wrong profile. Maybe double‑check your render settings, codecs, and target resolution before you blame the software.
