What’s the best option for home office wifi: mesh system or wired ethernet?
#1
I’m trying to set up a proper home office network and I’ve hit a wall with my Wi-Fi coverage. My router is in the living room, but my office is two rooms away and the signal drops constantly during video calls. I’m wondering if a mesh system would actually solve this, or if I should just run a long Ethernet cable through the walls instead.

I picked up a mesh kit last year after the same issue. It helped a bit, but the office two rooms away still had drops during calls. The node in the living room helped the signal a little, but not enough to be reliable for video.

We ran a long Ethernet cable through the walls instead. It was a pain to fish it through studs, but once it was in, the video calls stayed steady and the speeds were consistently higher. It felt like a real fix, even if it was a messy install.

Honestly, the wireless system I tried sometimes helped, but plaster walls and metal pipes made the signal bounce around. We ended up going wired for critical devices and kept wireless for laptops, which wasn't perfect but easier to manage.

Do you have metal studs or plaster walls in the path?
