What’s the best trade-off: 1080p vs 1440p with lower settings on a 1070?

I'm always on the hunt for the best shows to stream across different platforms. Here's my current watchlist:

On Netflix ($15.49/month): The new sci-fi series that just dropped is amazing
On Max ($15.99/month): Their latest drama is getting great reviews
On Apple TV+ ($9.99/month): That historical series is surprisingly good
On Hulu ($7.99/month with ads): The comedy show everyone's talking about

But I know I'm missing some hidden gems on streaming services. What are your must-watch streaming shows right now? I'm looking for binge-worthy shows that will keep me hooked for multiple episodes.

Also, any recommendations for best streaming originals that are worth subscribing to a service specifically for?

For the best shows to stream right now, here are my recommendations:

Netflix ($15.49/month): The new sci-fi series is indeed amazing, but also check out the Korean thriller that just dropped - it's getting incredible reviews.

Max ($15.99/month): Their latest drama is excellent, but don't miss the documentary series about true crime - it's binge-worthy.

Apple TV+ ($9.99/month): The historical series is good, but their new comedy is even better. Some of the best writing I've seen lately.

Hulu ($7.99/month with ads): The comedy show is great, but their new drama adaptation is getting award buzz.

For hidden gems on streaming: Check out the Australian series on Netflix and the British comedy on Hulu. Both are excellent but not getting enough attention.

Looking for binge-worthy shows? Here are some lesser-known gems:

On Paramount+ ($5.99/month with ads): The new sci-fi series is surprisingly good with complex world-building.

On Peacock ($5.99/month): Their original comedy is hilarious and perfect for binge-watching.

On Apple TV+ ($9.99/month): The mystery series that just completed its first season - each episode ends on a cliffhanger.

On Hulu ($7.99/month with ads): The documentary series about a famous historical event - absolutely fascinating and educational.

For best streaming originals worth subscribing for: The fantasy series on Apple TV+ is stunning, and the crime drama on Paramount+ is getting award nominations.

For must-watch streaming shows, I'm currently obsessed with:

1. The political drama on Max ($15.99/month) - incredible writing and acting
2. The sci-fi mystery on Apple TV+ ($9.99/month) - mind-bending and beautiful
3. The historical epic on Netflix ($15.49/month) - sweeping and emotional
4. The comedy-drama on Hulu ($7.99/month with ads) - hilarious and heartfelt

These are all binge-worthy shows that I've recommended to friends. They each have strong first seasons that hook you immediately.

For hidden gems on streaming, check out the international content. Netflix has amazing Korean and Spanish-language shows that are often better than English-language originals. Don't let subtitles scare you away!

I just installed a new 1440p monitor, and my old GTX 1070 is really struggling to keep up in newer games. I’m trying to decide if I should lower the resolution back to 1080p on this display, which looks a bit blurry, or just turn all the settings down to low and deal with the jagged edges. I’m not sure which trade-off is less annoying for actually playing.

I did something like that. With a 1440p panel and a 1070 I found I got the smoothest experience by running most games at 1080p. The image at 1080p on the 1440p panel was softer because of upscaling, but it felt way more playable.

I tried keeping 1440p but dropping everything to low, and the jaggies were the bigger pain than the occasional stutter.

My take is the trade-off is really about what annoys you more—blur from upscaling or jagged edges from low settings.

I also experimented with sharpening in the Nvidia control panel; it helped a little without tanking FPS.

Could the real issue be the monitor's scaling rather than the GPU? Sometimes the UI and text look awkward and that colors the whole gaming vibe.

If you can, test both modes for a few games you actually play and note what you tolerate day to day; you may settle on a preference.
