What’s the best way to apply pomade for all-day hair hold?

I've been trying to get my hair to hold a style all day, but it just goes flat by lunchtime. I'm using a good quality pomade, but I can't figure out if I'm applying it to hair that's too wet or too dry.

Yeah I get that. When I put it on hair that’s soaking wet it never sticks around. I usually towel dry until it’s just barely damp and let it rest a moment before styling.

Humidity somehow always sneaks in and ruins the hold. Some mornings it’s fine, by lunch it’s flat no matter what I try. Maybe the weather is the real problem?

I did experiment with what you’re talking about—dry vs damp. With the hair a touch drier the texture felt thicker, but it wore off faster. Not sure if that means I should stay somewhere in between.

Also the amount matters more than I expect; too much weighs it down, too little gives you nothing.
