What’s the best way to charge an apartment EV: 240V outlet or wall charger?
#1
I just got my first EV and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle charging at my apartment. My landlord is willing to let me install something, but I’m stuck deciding between a basic 240V outlet or a proper wall unit, especially since I only have access to street parking right in front of the building.

I went with a proper wall unit and a dedicated 40 amp circuit installed near the parking spot. It charges a lot faster and I don’t have to babysit a cord or swap adapters every time. It felt worth the upfront cost even though the install worried me at first.

I started with a simple 240V outlet and a portable EVSE. It was cheaper to test whether I’d actually use it. It works, but charging takes longer and you have to manage the cord and weather exposure, which is rough with street parking.

It might be less about the charger and more about the parking window. If you’re not guaranteed to park in front when you need a top up, a wall unit won’t fix that.

How many miles do you typically drive per day?
