What’s the best way to get affordable car insurance after a cancellation?
#1
I just got a notice that my car insurance is being cancelled at the end of the month due to two not-at-fault claims in the last year. I’m scrambling to find a new policy but every quote I’m getting is incredibly high, and I’m worried a standard insurer won’t take me at all now. Has anyone else had their coverage dropped like this and found a reasonable way forward?

I went through the same thing last year after two not-at-fault incidents and my carrier canceled at renewal. I spent weeks talking to different shops and ended up with a smaller regional company that’s willing to write high risk stuff, but the rate is steep and the policy terms are a lot stricter. It helped that I kept my driving clean aside from those events, and I avoided dropping coverage entirely while I shopped.

It felt like the clock was against me and every quote kept coming back inflated. I still wonder if there’s something else in my file – maybe an old claim code or a mistake – that’s inflating everything more than the actual driving would justify.

Do you think the two not-at-fault claims are really the trigger, or could there be a misinterpretation somewhere that’s making underwriters shy away? I had a similar moment and just kept asking for the reason codes, but I didn’t get a clean answer.

Honestly I tried a telematics option for a while, hoping real-time driving data would show I’m not the risk they think. It didn’t cure the sticker shock, but every few days a new quote would dip a bit, then spike again. Also I briefly checked with a couple of state programs for high risk coverage, but those felt limited and expensive too, so I stalled.
