What’s the best way to introduce myself when joining a new city forum?

I just moved to a new city and joined this forum to try and meet people, but I'm honestly not sure how to start. Do I just jump into existing conversations, or is it better to post something like this first? It feels a bit awkward introducing myself to a screen.

I moved last year too. I started by lurking in a few threads for a couple days, then posted a short hello in the new here thread and commented on posts about local events. It felt clunky at first, but people replied with friendly welcomes. I didn’t make big plans right away, but I started recognizing a few usernames and kept that going.

I tried jumping into conversations without an intro and it felt off. Some threads moved fast and I didn’t stand out. A simple, short introduction about being new here and what I’m hoping to do made it easier to get replies.

Hi, I’m new in town too and I hate awkward screen introductions, but I figured a tiny post helps. I signed up for a city thread and asked what people here actually do for fun on weekends. Any tips on breaking the ice without feeling ridiculous?

One time I started thinking I should wait for a perfect plan, and then I got distracted by a cafe thread and drifted into talking about a pastry shop for a while. It was silly, but I learned I was avoiding meeting anyone. I did end up going to a casual meet-up and it was fine, not earth-shaking but human.
