What’s the best way to pick between Steam and GOG libraries?

I’ve been trying to decide between keeping my games spread across Steam and GOG, or just consolidating everything into my Steam library. I like having DRM-free backups from one service, but my friends list and achievements are all on the other, and it’s getting messy.

I tried the two-libray shuffle too. I kept DRM-free backups from one store and used Steam for the rest. It was nice to have the backups, but updates and installs still felt clunky and I spent more time babysitting two libraries than playing.

Steam's social stuff wins for me. Friends list, achievements, quick multiplayer, that sense of belonging. I kept a few games on GOG when they were cheap, but mostly I just moved on.

Maybe the problem isn't where the games live but how you actually play them. I kept thinking I needed a single launcher, but in practice it just meant more steps to launch a game. Do you actually miss most about the other service?

There was a time I tried full consolidation and it backfired when a big update changed the installer path and I couldn't find the file. Ended up giving up and leaving some games on the older store. It felt messy.
