What’s the etiquette for using a public EV charger when battery is at 80%?

I just got my first EV and I'm trying to figure out the etiquette for using a public charging spot when my battery is already pretty full, say at 80%. I saw someone waiting the other day and felt awkward, but I also heard it's bad for the battery to sit at 100% for too long.

I’ve settled on treating 80 percent as my cutoff at public chargers. If I see someone waiting, I start thinking about unplugging, even if I’m still at 82. The last thing I want is to clog a stall when someone nearby needs it.

I once stood by awkwardly at a busy lot. I was at about 78% and there was a line, so I unplugged as soon as I could and moved on. It felt weird, but I didn’t want to hold things up.

Do these stations usually have a time limit sign or an app showing any real rules? I want to know what others actually follow.

I tried leaving my car charging while I grabbed coffee once. Came back and the stall was taken, which made me rethink how strict I should be about staying near the plug.
