What’s the real benefit of a mechanical keyboard for gaming, or is it hype?

I’ve been using a standard membrane keyboard for years, but I just tried a friend’s mechanical one and the difference in typing feel was huge. I’m wondering if switching to a mechanical keyboard is really worth the investment for mostly gaming, or if it’s just a preference thing that gets overhyped.

I switched to a mechanical with a tactile switch and it changed how I play. The actuation feels cleaner, I can keep a steady rhythm longer, and I land shots more consistently in fast games. It isn’t a miracle cure, but the consistency is what surprised me and the investment paid off for daily use.

I tried it for a few weeks and the price tag was hard to swallow. The click is loud in a quiet room and the extra travel made some menu moments feel slow at first. I kept it around for a while but it didn’t become my only setup.

Not sure if it’s real or placebo. After a bit I started wondering if I just liked the feel because it’s new, and I still caught myself double tapping in some games. Maybe I need a different switch or a different profile.

Do you care more about the tactile feedback or the performance difference?
