What 27-inch vs 32-inch monitor fits coding on a deep desk with sharp text?

I’m trying to decide between a 27-inch and a 32-inch monitor for my home office coding setup, and I’m worried about the pixel density at the larger size. My desk is pretty deep, but I’ve read that text can look less sharp if the resolution doesn’t scale well with the bigger screen.

I swapped a 27 inch 1440p for a 32 inch 4K setup a while back. Text stayed sharp enough once I bumped Windows to 125% scaling and picked a comfortable font size. The bigger screen let me see more of the code at once, which felt like a real win.

I kept the 32 inch but with a higher res like 4K; otherwise 32 inch at 1440p felt a little soft. If you can't go 4K, a 27 inch can still be plenty sharp and gives you similar density without cranking up scaling.

I tried a few things and opened a long code file side by side, comparing readability with different font sizes and a monospace. It helped me pick a balance, but there was no perfect setting that felt universally great.

Maybe the real issue isn’t the pixel density but viewing distance. I found moving the chair back a bit helped more than chasing a tiny increase in sharpness. Do you sit close to the screen?
