What affects Quest 3 passthrough quality and how can I fix it?

I just got a Quest 3 and the passthrough feels kind of… underwhelming? It’s grainy and the world looks flat, which makes mixed reality games feel less immersive than I hoped. I’m wondering if this is just how it is for everyone, or if maybe my lighting is wrong.

Yeah I felt the same when I got mine recently. The passthrough in a dim living room looked grainy and the edges felt soft like a flat layer over the real room. I tried turning on extra lamps and that helped a bit but it still did not feel like real life. Maybe it's a limitation of the camera feed or the compression.

I tried a couple of mixed reality games in bright light and the depth still did not feel strong. The world looked like it was on a screen in front of me not in front of me. I kept telling myself this is still experimental and room setup matters. I noticed moving slowly made depth cues a little clearer.

Do others experience this graininess even in a well lit room I wonder if my unit is just off or if this is the whole line?

I almost gave up and switched to PC VR but I kept coming back maybe the real problem is not the passthrough but my expectations I am not sure what I am chasing and I drift from time to time.
