What app could be draining my phone battery even with normal use?

My new phone’s battery life is just terrible, draining almost halfway by lunchtime with just normal use. I’ve checked for obvious stuff like a bright screen, but I’m wondering if a specific app might be the culprit behind the scenes.

I had a similar problem last month. One app started chewing through power after an update. It stayed awake in the background even when I wasn't using it. Killing it in the background helped a bit.

I also found a chat app kept syncing in the background; I turned off background refresh for it and reduced auto-downloads. The drain eased but the day still felt short.

Maybe there's another layer. After chasing apps for days, I wondered if the OS scheduling or the hardware could be aging. I tried a reset and reinstall, but it didn't fix it and I felt stuck.

Could the real issue be the device's power cell health rather than one rogue app? On my old phone the power cell wore out and replacing it helped a lot.
