What can I do about a dry cough from my COPD inhaler without stopping therapy?
#1
I’ve been on a triple therapy inhaler for my COPD for about six months now, and while my breathing feels a bit easier, I’ve developed this persistent, dry cough that just won’t go away. My doctor says it’s a known side effect for some people, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and found a way to manage it without stopping the medication.

I went through something similar with the triple therapy and the dry cough was nonstop and annoying. I tried running a humidifier at night and sipping water all day, which helped a little. I also started using a spacer with the inhaler so more medicine hit the lungs instead of the throat. It helped a bit, but the cough stuck around for months.

To me it helped to keep a tiny log. I noted days I rinsed my mouth after the inhaler and days I used the spacer correctly. The cough eased a little on days I did those things, but it never disappeared completely. Not scientific, just a pattern I noticed.

I started to wonder if the cough could be something else—seasonal allergies, post nasal drip, or even reflux. After talking with my doctor we ruled out infection but kept the inhaler going because of the breathing benefits. It’s frustrating because I want the help with breathing without this lingering cough.

Have you talked with your doctor about whether the cough could be tied to inhaler technique or the spacer you’re using?
