What can i do to break the habit of checking my phone after silencing alerts?

I’ve been trying to cut back on my phone use, but every time I silence notifications, I find myself picking it up anyway just to check for updates. It feels like my focus is constantly being pulled away without any actual alerts, and I’m not sure if that’s just a habit I formed or something deeper about how the tech is designed.

I get you. I silenced every notification, but I still find my hand reaching for the phone during quiet moments. Feels like a habit loop more than an alert thing now.

I tried turning the screen grayscale and even parked the phone in another room for a few hours. It cut the ping, but I still tapped the badge icon a few times when I felt bored.

One evening I left it on the charger in another room and it still tugged at me when I opened my laptop. It wasn’t about new messages so much as the pull of checking something, anything, to fill the stillness.

Do you think the problem is the habit itself or the way the apps train us to check?
