What can i do to get my kids into old cartoons with hand-drawn animation?

I’ve been trying to get my kids into the old Saturday morning cartoons I loved, but they just don’t connect with them at all. I put on some classic episodes of *Animaniacs* and *Batman: The Animated Series*, thinking the humor and style would be timeless, but they lost interest after a few minutes and asked for something modern. It makes me wonder if that specific kind of hand-drawn animation and pacing just doesn’t work for them.

I tried the same with my kid last weekend. We fired up Batman TAS and some Animaniacs, and after a few minutes they were scrolling on their tablet and asking for something louder and brighter. We ended up watching a modern show instead, and they barely noticed what we started with.

Part of me wonders if it's the pacing and the way humor lands. Those old shows often lean on longer setups and dialogue, which can feel slow when kids today want fast action and bright visuals.

Do you think the real issue is that they need a different pacing or a different kind of humor?

I even checked the theme songs and title cards, wondering if the music might be doing the hook. I tried splitting it into short chunks, six or seven minutes of a classic, then a quick modern episode. It helped a little, we talked about what was happening, but the pull to the new stuff was still strong.
