What can I do to protect my gut while on antibiotics?
#1
I’ve been prescribed a course of antibiotics for a stubborn sinus infection, and I’m worried about how it might affect my gut. I’ve heard these medications can really disrupt the natural balance down there, but I don’t know how much of a concern that should be while I’m still taking them.

I went through a similar course last year for a stubborn sinus infection. The first few days my gut felt off, more bloating and looser stools. It settled by day five and nothing lasting after finishing.

I didn't have a huge gut blowout, but I did notice extra gas and a few awkward trips to the bathroom in the middle. I kept hydrated and ate simple foods, and it mellowed out after a couple days.

Do you think adding a probiotic would have helped, or is that just guesswork?

I told the pharmacist I was worried, and they said to watch for persistent diarrhea or abdominal pain and to check back if it lasts after the course. I kept it simple, no fancy supplements.
