What can you do if your smart speaker records audio without a wake word?
#1
I’ve noticed my smart speaker’s activity log shows it’s been triggered a few times when nobody said the wake word, and it recorded snippets of our private conversations. It’s making me uneasy about what else it might be picking up and where that audio goes. Has anyone else had this happen and looked into what the data is used for?

I had a similar thing happen last month. It woke up while we were chatting and captured part of a private conversation. I found the clip in the app and ended up deleting it and turning off the microphone when not needed.

I asked the company about it and they gave the usual reassurance about privacy and cloud processing. They offered to review the data and to enable a setting that stops saving voice recordings.

Maybe the real issue is misfiring from background noise or other devices. It makes me wonder if we are chasing the wrong problem until we silence the whole house.

I tried moving the device farther from conversations and enabling local processing if available, but I still check the history every few days and cringe at what shows up.
