What causes a dry cough from blood pressure meds after starting?
#1
I’ve been on the same blood pressure medication for years, but lately I’ve noticed a persistent dry cough that my doctor thinks might be linked to it. Has anyone else experienced this kind of side effect appearing so long after starting a treatment?

That can happen. I was on an ACE inhibitor for years and then a dry cough popped up out of nowhere. It wasn’t constant, but it stuck around and started to feel normal after a while.

I kept a simple log for a couple weeks and talked to my doctor about a switch or a dose tweak to see if the cough would ease. We explored the idea of changing class rather than just chasing symptoms.

Did your doctor check other possibilities like allergies, reflux, or a recent infection and specifically test whether the med was the cause?

Sometimes it feels like the cough is the story, and the meds are just the background noise, but I kept wondering if I’m chasing the wrong problem entirely and whether something else is going on.
