What causes sudden vertigo and should i see a neurologist about it?

I’ve been getting these intense, sudden waves of dizziness that feel like the room is spinning for a few seconds, especially when I turn my head quickly to look over my shoulder. My doctor mentioned it could be related to loose crystals in my inner ear, but I’m wondering if this is something neurologists look into as well, since it affects my balance so dramatically.

That sounds a lot like BPPV to me, the sudden spins when you move your head. I had something similar and they said crystals drift in the inner ear.

Neurology can be involved if there are red flags or if the dizziness feels like it could be coming from the brain, but for most positional vertigo cases the ear nose throat folks or vestibular therapists handle it.

I did a quick clinic demo of the Epley maneuver and then a few weeks of simple exercises; the episodes got less abrupt, though they weren’t gone.

Maybe you’re chasing two things at once, like a real ear issue and anxiety, or even something else like dehydration or neck tension, and I’m not sure what’s true for you.
