What causes transient olfactory loss and should i see a doctor?
#1
I’ve been getting these strange episodes where I lose my sense of smell completely for a few minutes, and it’s starting to worry me. It happened again yesterday while I was cooking, and I couldn’t smell the garlic or onions at all until it suddenly came back. Has anyone else experienced this kind of transient olfactory loss?

Yeah, I had something like this a couple of years back. It happened once when I was brushing my teeth and the room went quiet for a minute, then it snapped back. A doctor suggested it could be a temporary disruption in the nerves that handle odor, sometimes tied to migraines or stress. Not saying that's what you’re having, just what I heard.

I’d keep a little log if it happens again: note the time, what you were doing, meds, and any other symptoms. If it keeps happening, a clinician can check for sinus issues or anything neurological. It’s not something to ignore, but it isn’t automatically dangerous either.

I once started thinking maybe the kitchen air quality or steam was throwing things off. I wandered around the house for a minute trying to figure it out, then it cleared. It felt odd but it also felt like something my brain tacked onto the day rather than a big problem.

Have you noticed any headaches or weakness around those times?
