What CB500X suspension upgrades improve handling on backroads?

My CB500X feels a bit vague and wallowy when I'm loaded up for a weekend camping trip, especially on faster backroads. I'm wondering if upgrading the stock suspension components would make a noticeable difference in handling and confidence, or if I should look at other adjustments first.

I did swap the stock rear shock for something a bit stiffer and dialed in more sag for loaded rides. It made the wallow less noticeable when I had camping bags, and the bike felt calmer on fast sweepers. Not a miracle, but the lines felt more predictable with luggage strapped on.

Before dropping cash on parts, I double checked tire pressures and how I packed the bike. With a heavy load, the front seemed to dive and the rear squirmed a bit when I hit ripples. Lowering the rebound a notch helped a bit, and keeping the bags low and centered kept the balance my wrists could trust.

Honestly, I’m not sure it’s the suspension at all. When I loaded for a weekend, the bike felt off, but after swapping a front tire and adjusting the rack, the change was subtle. I still wouldn’t call it confident at speed, so maybe something else is the real culprit.

One night I caught myself staring at the rack and thinking maybe it’s the load, not the springs. I moved the heavy bag lower and closer to the center and the wobble eased a touch. Then I wandered into thoughts about a damper, which felt too much for this bike, but it stuck with me how much balance mattered.
