What could a high-pitched front-end noise while coasting mean for Civic brakes?

My 2015 Civic has started making a faint, high-pitched whirring sound that seems to come from the front right wheel area whenever I’m coasting at low speeds. It disappears if I touch the brakes even lightly, which makes me think it’s related to a brake pad or caliper issue. I’m just not sure if this is something that needs immediate attention or if it’s a common wear indicator starting to make contact.

I had a similar thing on my Civic a few years back. A faint high pitched whistle that only showed up when coasting and vanished as soon as I touched the brakes. Turned out the caliper pins were sticking and the pad was lightly dragging. A proper brake service (pads, pins lubed, rotor checked) fixed it for me.

From my own experience, when it goes away with braking it could be something in the brake area or a tiny rock brushing the shield. I pulled over, inspected the front right area, and saw the pad looked okay but the rotor had a bit of shine. I cleaned the shield, lubricated the pins, and kept an eye on it.

I’d still treat it as not totally safe—brakes are safety critical. It might be a wear indicator, a sticking caliper, or something else, and I’ve seen cases where it turned into a bigger noise or drag if ignored. If it keeps up, a quick check by a shop is wise before it becomes expensive.

Could this be something as simple as a rock wedged in the brake shield, or is it more likely a brake issue?
