What could be causing a diesel smell in the bilge with no visible leaks?

I’ve been noticing a faint but persistent smell of diesel fuel in my bilge lately, even though I can’t find any visible leaks around the tank or fuel lines. It’s got me a bit concerned about where it might be coming from and what I should be checking next.

I've had a similar diesel smell in the bilge a few times. When you can't pin down a leak, the scent can hide in the bilge from a tiny seep or from the tank vent as the system breathes.

I did a hands on sweep: pulled engine room panels, checked clamps on fuel lines, wiped fittings, and kept notes of where the odor showed up. Nothing glaring stood out, but the odor lingered.

Could it be that the smell is coming from something else in the bilge like solvent or oil contamination rather than fuel?

Sometimes a slow drip right at the tank vent or a small seep in a fitting dries out and then reappears after a sail. I gave up chasing a clean answer and just kept watching the bilge for new drips after each trip.
