What could be causing my throat globus sensation?
#1
For the last few weeks, I’ve had this constant feeling of something stuck in my throat, but there’s never anything there when I swallow food or drink. It’s not painful, just this annoying globus sensation that makes me want to clear my throat all the time. My doctor ruled out acid reflux, so I’m wondering if it could be related to muscle tension in my neck or something with my actual throat structure.

I know the feeling—globus sensation they call it. I had something similar a while back. Not painful, just this lump that made me clear my throat constantly. I found some relief by loosening up my neck and shoulders: slow neck rolls, desk breaks, and being mindful about not tensing my throat when I spoke. It faded after a couple months, but I can’t say exactly why.

I had the same test ruled out reflux by my doctor too. For me anxiety and stress seemed to flare it up. I tried mouthwash, throat lozenges, and a humidifier; nothing fixed it, but when I slowed down and breathed through the throat a bit, it bothered me less.

Did you notice it gets worse after long phone calls or when you’re in a noisy environment? I keep wondering if we’re chasing the wrong culprit.

I keep thinking maybe it’s not a throat issue at all but how I swallow or the timing of saliva. A friend suggested a speech therapist consult, not for speech, but for swallowing patterns; I chickened out because I’m not sure it’s the problem.
