What could be keeping my hrv low despite good sleep?

I’ve been tracking my HRV for months, and it’s consistently low despite good sleep and regular zone 2 cardio. I’m starting to wonder if my nervous system is just stuck in a stressed state, or if there’s something specific I’m missing that’s preventing my autonomic balance from improving.

Yeah I get this. Sleep felt solid and the cardio felt good but the readings stayed low. It makes you wonder if you are chasing a moving target.

In my case the HRV readings were stubbornly low too. I started tracking caffeine, alcohol, and salt for a few weeks, and I noticed dips after late coffees. I tried a three minute paced breathing each morning and it gave me a tiny bump, but it did not fix the baseline. I am left wondering if the nervous system is stuck in a tense loop or if there is another piece missing like skin temperature or recovery quality.

I tried a week with no caffeine after two pm and no alcohol on weekdays and I watched resting metrics to see if there was any move. It barely moved.

Could sleep quality be breaking down in the middle of the night even if total sleep looks good?

I had a spa day and a long massage with heat and I hoped it would loosen the shoulders. It did not change the bigger pattern and made me think the issue is deeper or simply the measurement cycle.

Maybe the baseline shifted and I need to reset the gauge or maybe the device is reading the same thing because I got used to it.
