What could cause a companion mod to idle despite a gameplay overhaul?

I’ve been trying to get a custom companion mod to work with my existing gameplay overhaul, but the companion just stands there idle no matter what I do. I’ve checked that both mods are for the right game version and my load order seems correct, but I’m wondering if there’s a fundamental scripting conflict I don’t understand.

I've seen that too. The idle issue often crops up when an overhaul changes AI or animation hooks, even if the mods load fine. Double check that the companion's animation graph and the overhaul's AI packages aren’t stepping on each other’s toes.

I actually tried to pin it down by loading just the two mods, and the companion still did nothing. After I disabled a third mod that touched followers, it woke up for a moment, then froze again. It feels like a patchwork problem.

There could be a script conflict or a hardcoded check in the overhaul that blocks non vanilla followers unless a specific quest stage is active. Look for changes to actor base form, AI packages, or quest scripts that reference followers.

Do you have a quick save before meeting them?
