What could cause a high-pitched whine in the transmission when in third gear?

Some celebrity fashion updates create moments that people talk about for years while others are quickly forgotten. What do you think makes a celebrity fashion moment truly memorable? Is it about taking risks, perfect execution, cultural relevance, or something else entirely? I love analyzing what makes certain red carpet looks stand the test of time.

I’ve been noticing a faint, high-pitched whine from my car’s transmission that only happens when I’m accelerating in third gear. It’s not the engine, and it goes away if I shift up or let off the throttle, which has me worried it’s an early sign of something internal wearing out.

I had a similar thing with my car a while back, a faint high pitched whine that showed up only when the transmission was in a certain gear and I was accelerating in third.

I ended up taking it to a shop after a few days and they couldn't reproduce it on the road or on a lift, which left me more worried.

Could be a bearing or gear mesh, or the torque converter, not sure.

It did worry me, but in my case it never got louder and eventually faded away after a few weeks.

Sometimes I wondered if it was something loose or a heat shield vibrating, and I poked around a bit but nothing lined up.

Do you think this is the real problem or could something else be making the noise?
