What could cause a persistent metallic taste from a new prescription?
#1
I've been taking a new prescription for a few weeks now, and I'm noticing a weird, persistent metallic taste in my mouth that just won't go away. It's making food and even water taste off, and I'm starting to wonder if this is a known side effect of the medication or something else I should be concerned about.

That metallic taste after starting a new prescription is something a lot of people notice. It can come from the drug itself or from dry mouth which changes how flavors come through. I had it once when a new pill started I drank more water, gum helped a bit and brushing after meals made things feel a little less harsh but the taste hung around for a while.

Maybe it is not the pill at all. Sinus stuff a dental issue or even dehydration can mess with taste. I spent weeks chasing the pill as the culprit before a clinician suggested I check those other angles and keep an eye on symptoms.

If it is persistent and messing with eating I would reach out to the doctor or pharmacist to ask if this is a known side effect for your exact med and what to do next. In my case they said it is sometimes temporary and to monitor but nothing drastic to change right away.

One more thing that crosses my mind and it drifts a bit off topic like I once remembered a weird metallic taste after using a new toothpaste not the same thing but it reminded me taste can be affected by many small changes. Anyway back to the med a quick call or message to check in feels reasonable rather than waiting it out forever.
