What could cause a whine from the power steering pump when turning slowly?

I’ve got a 2015 sedan that’s developed a faint, high-pitched whine from the front end that only happens when I’m turning the steering wheel at low speeds, like when I’m parking. The power steering fluid level looks okay, but I’m worried it might be the pump starting to fail.

That faint whine at low speed often points to the power steering side. Since the fluid level looks fine, it could be the pump or the belt tensioner; listen for changes with engine RPM or steering effort.

I had a similar sound once and it turned out to be a loose serpentine belt. It would whine when the pump loaded up. Replacing the belt and tensioner fixed it for me.

Could it be air in the system or the rack and pinion rather than the pump? Not sure if that's the real problem here.

I did a quick check: start the engine, turn the wheel a few times while parked, listen. The sound was louder when cold and eased a bit as the engine warmed up, which pointed me toward a pump or belt issue rather than a leak. It didn’t fix it, but it gave me something concrete to tell a mechanic.
