What could cause burning in the upper abdomen and heartburn after meals?

I’ve been dealing with this persistent, gnawing pain in my upper abdomen for a few months now, and my doctor mentioned it could be related to excess stomach acid. I’m curious if others have felt this specific kind of discomfort, especially a burning sensation that seems to creep up behind your breastbone after eating.

Yeah, I’ve felt that burning chest sensation after meals too. It would start behind the breastbone and kind of creep up and sit there for a while.

For me the pattern settled a bit when I started eating smaller portions and avoiding big spicy meals late in the day. It didn’t vanish, but it softened.

I kept thinking it was stress or something I ate, but the timing kept throwing me off. Sometimes it showed up even when I hadn’t overdone it.

Did your doctor mention testing for reflux or trying something like an acid reducer?
