What could cause post-meal upper abdominal pain, reflux or something else?

I’ve been dealing with this persistent, gnawing pain in my upper abdomen that seems to come on about an hour or two after I eat, especially if the meal was a bit richer. My doctor mentioned it could be related to my stomach acid, but the over-the-counter antacids I’ve tried only give me relief for a little while before the discomfort creeps back.

I've been there. After dinners with rich sauces I felt this gnawing upper abdomen ache about an hour later. OTC antacids would quiet it for a while, then it would come back. I started a tiny log of what I ate and when symptoms showed up. I noticed fatty meals and big portions tended to be worse, especially things with cream or cheese. It didn’t vanish, but swapping to lighter dinners and smaller portions over a couple of weeks made the flareups less frequent. My doctor mentioned it could be acid-related, but there was no dramatic fix.

I’m not a doctor, but I kept wondering if it was something like slow digestion or a reaction to fat in meals rather than all out irritation. The pattern fit meals, but it wasn’t absolute, and that made me doubt whether I was seeing the whole picture.

I tried different OTC remedies and also cut back on dairy and heavy desserts for a while. The pain still showed up after a really rich meal, just less often.

For weeks I also worried about what it could be, even scrolling too far into worst case stuff. Eventually I went back to basics—smaller meals, water, rest—and the episodes got milder, but they never totally stopped. It still nags after big dinners.
