What could cause thigh muscle pain on statins?
#1
I’ve been on a statin for about six months now and my latest bloodwork shows my LDL is down significantly, which is great. But I’ve started noticing a dull ache in my thighs, especially after a short walk, and I’m wondering if this could be related to the medication affecting my muscles.

I’ve been on a statin for about six months and my LDL dropped a lot, which is great. But the dull thigh ache started after a short walk and it’s persisted. It doesn’t feel like a pulled muscle, more like a general fatigue in the thigh. I mentioned it to my doctor, and we talked about whether it could be muscle symptoms from the medicine and what to watch for.

I had something similar last year. The ache hit after walking and it felt like tightness in the back of the thigh. I tried shorter, gentler walks for a week, then added light stretches. It eased a bit, but came back when I pushed too far. I brought it up with my clinician and we considered the possibility of muscle symptoms and checked markers.

Maybe it’s not the medicine at all. Could be dehydration, shoes, or just winter stiffness creeping in. I logged when it happened and it didn’t line up perfectly with when I took any pill, so I started doubting this was the whole story.

If you’re looking for a next step, my plan would be to talk to your doctor about options—possible dose adjustment, trying a different medication, or another approach if the muscle symptoms are bothersome. I’m not sure that helps now, but it’s what I’m considering.
