What data logging gear helps club racers improve braking and turn-in?
#1
I’m trying to decide if I should invest in a proper data logging system for my club racing efforts this season. I’ve been relying on my own seat-of-the-pants feel and basic lap times, but I keep wondering what I’m missing in my braking and turn-in points that a system could show me.

I started with a cheap data logger last season. It exposed that my braking was uneven through the corners and I was releasing too early.

I bought one and the software felt clumsy; I spent more time chasing graphs than actually driving.

The numbers helped corroborate what I felt, but I found it hard to translate raw data into concrete changes.

One race I relied on instinct, and I felt I left a bunch of tenths on braking, but I can't be sure if data would have saved it.

Do you actually need telemetry, or would a simple video with time stamps do enough to spot the braking points?

I once spent ages chasing sensor drift and calibration, and honestly I still question if the data helped or if I just wanted it to. Maybe the real win was getting the tires up to temperature.
